More than 30 Skiers Injured in a Day on the Ski Slopes of Bansko
Over 30 skiers were injured in a single day on the ski slopes overlooking the town of Bansko. Mountain rescue experts explain this by the fact that skiers tend to take risks and overestimate their own abilities as well as by the fact that certain areas on the slopes were iced over. Although no major accidents were reported, the number of light to medium injuries such as wrist and leg fractures is staggering.
Statistics show that the demand for mountain insurance covering the costs of administering first aid and transporting the injured to healthcare facilities is still weak.
Starting this year, Lev Ins Insurance Company will be providing a helicopter to be used in more critical and complicated rescue operations on the mountain. It is stationed near the lower gondola lift terminal in Bansko. The Active Care Insurance that covers the use of the aircraft costs between BGN 6 and BGN 18 and can be purchased at any one of the lift pass counters as well as at any of Lev Ins’s offices. Uninsured will be charged 1 200 euro per flight hour.
